OK, I realize some merchants in Port Jeff are complaining about weak sales and are worried but a recent early morning walk reassured me things are looking better in Port Jeff.The economic outlook may seem a little bleak but Port Jeff is wealthy when it comes to natural beauty and charm. The pleasures of summer are in full bloom in Port Jeff. With all the warm weather and rain Port Jeff is looking better than ever!
Talking about natural charm, have you you checked out the the newly renovated promenade on Port Jeff Harbor at sunset? You can stroll from the Brookhaven marina/parking lot, on the west side of the harbor, past Danfords all the way over to PJ Village Center on the east side of the harbor. If you are looking for another little walk, check out the 1/5 mile long walkway on the Old Mill Creek. The walk starts by Chandler Square parking lot and follows the creek over to Barnum ave.The Old Mill Creek (next to Schafer’s) empties into Port Jeff harbor.
Even as we all struggle through these difficult economic times, positive things are happening in Port Jeff. Everyone knows there are lots of good food and restaurants to choose from. Port jeff is know for it’s unique stores and boutiques and there is no shortage of free music, entertaiment and family events. But there are lots of other positive things happening in Port Jeff. The Long Island Music Hall of Fame has just announced it’s new home will be in Port Jeff. Once again Motorcycles can park for free in the Brookhaven parking lot. The Chamber of Commerce seems to have reinvented itself and is promoting events that are good for Port Jeff, the local business communtity and residents. And the current Mayor Garant continues to be a positive voice for a kinder, gentler Port Jeff while she balances the needs of local business and residents.
I guess the good news is any way you want to look at it , things are looking better in Port Jeff! Pass the word and encourage your friends and family to come down to Port Jefferson and enjoy some of Port Jeff’s natural beauty and charm. Port Jeff really does have a lot to love!
