The Port Jeff Chamber of Commerce promised a hugh parade and they delivered. The good weather and Santa brought out the crowds. This annual event kicks off the holiday season for Port Jeff and a variety of merchants around town reported increased sales this year. Santa apparently had some troubles this year because the Parade got off to a late start. No big deal. What’s a 1/2 hour to a man who has to come from the North Pole!
This year the Santa parade took a new route around the Village. The parade started in Upper Port Jefferson Station and came down Main Street as usual but the route was extended to go around to East Main Street and then back to Maint Street and wind up at Santa’s Workshop on the corner of West Broadway and Barnum Ave.
Of course, the kids were all waiting for Santa but there was plenty of other attractions at the parade. The PJ Chamber of commerce lead off the parade followed the PJ Volunter Fire Department. Civic organizations were represted including local cub, boy and girl scouting troops. The parade also included PJ own Royals, the PJ Ferry Float, a large of variety of antique and classic cars which are always fun to see.
My favorite attraction at the parade where the young kids dressed up as holiday presents! It’s not easy to walk around in a around the Village as holiday box but they got lots of cheers. Many of the parade participants also threw candy and treats to the children along the route which added to the festive holiday Spirit.
All good things have to come to end and this year the parade ended at the Drowned Meadow House (corner of W Broadway and Barnum Ave) which has been transformed into Santa’s Workshop which was very popular with the kids of all ages. One thing is for sure, the PJ
Chamber of Commerce and the PJ Village did a good job bringing the Holiday Spirit to Port Jefferson!
