On Sunday Morning, May 15,2011, Port Jefferson Farmer’s Market returned for its second season. The Market is located on Main Street in the parking lot between The Steam Room/ Frigate Parking Lot and Lanie’s Way. With a threat of rain the Farmers kicked off it’s second season with sale of locally-grown farm products, spring plants, flowers, unique foods and some great entertainment. This year’s vendors include Condzella Farms. Stan Pat Farms, Biophilia Organic Farms, Bambino Ravioli, Berry Happy Farms and Invincible Summer Farms, Pickle Packin’ Papa with more vendors expected.
I found locally grown asparagus from Condzella’s Farm in Wading River, some great red scallions and a raspberry bush. The Framers Market is a great place to really shop local and meet the people who grow the food. It really was great to know the asparagus I had for dinner were grown in Wading River on Condzella’s family farm.
The Farmers Market will happen every Sunday from May 15th thru the harvest season with the hours of operation from 9:00 a.m. through 1:00 p.m
Besides the food vendors, Port Jeff’s Farmer market also features live music. I arrived just as the first act by a young lady was ending but was lucky enough to catch a couple of songs by a band called Kanenas which did some fun covers of Beatle songs - nice job guys. The PJ Farmers market is a nice way to start the day on Sunday and I would suggest making some time to listen to some young talent and shop local and support your local farmers and merchants!
