Very few cars can be described as an “Icon” but the 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air is one of the most “Iconic” designs of all time.Very few cars or shapes say “The 1950′s” and “Rock and Roll” like the 57 Chevy. Model year 1957 would be the last for the “Tri-Five”. The idea of Chevy’s chief engineer Ed Cole the 1955 Chevrolet would be Chevy’s first V8 since the doomed 1917-1919 Model D Touring. 1955 would be the first year for the legendary Small Block Chevy V8 engine. At 265 cubic inches it was rated at 165 horsepower in stock trim. The Small Block would go on to to be the most produced engine of all time.
Model year 1956 would see upgrades to the engine, body and interior. Many Chevy purist consider 1956 the least valuable of the Tri-Five. For year 1957 Chevy would bump the Small Block up to 283 cubic inches. They would keep the 283 V8 in use virtualy unchanged till 1967. For the ’57″ Chevy like other Detroit car makers was trying to give their cars a rocket theme. The fins and the “Dagmar” bumper rubbers were all part of the theme of a “Rocket in Flight” The 283 V8 was available in stock trim with a two barrel Rochester carb rated at 185 horsepower. If your wallet could handle it you could opt for the “Fuelie” or Fuel Injection. at 283 Horsepower it was an industry first with “one horse per inch” power as magazine ads bragged at the time.
The shape of 1957 would be part of American culture.True automotive art in motion. The “57″ would go on to be the symbol of the American car industry at its finest hour and the desire of auto collectors till today. The featured 1957 Chevy Belair 2 door hardtop is finished in “Matador Red” with black and red interior. Chevy would offer over 460 exterior and interior color combo’s for 1957. Our feature “57″ was part of the famed Port Jeff Hill Climb in 2010.Options on our feature car are fender skirts, spinner hubcaps,Bel Air trim,283 V8 and Powerglide auto transmission. The owner of this fine ’57′ should drive his iconic Chevy with pride evoking a much simpler time when Rock and Roll was new and you took your best girl for a Sunday drive.
