A Sunday In The Life Of A Port Jeff Local..

One of the most enjoyable things about being a Port Jefferson Village resident is spending a Sunday downtown. After a night of karaoke and good times at The Village Way nothing makes me feel better than winding down in my harborside village. Granted getting up at the crack of 8am is a little hard when you head hits the pillow at 4am but to me it is worth it. The best thing is everything is within walking distance. My first stop is Starbucks. When the weather is warm nothing clears the cobwebs better than a large iced coffee. Everytime I go the PJ Starbucks I always run into a local person for some brief but spirited conversation.

During the colder months the Port Jeff Starbucks is a haven for “Man-gossip” and conversations ranging from tube socks, relationships and sports. During the warmer months I tend to head to the bench by The Gap. If you want to get a full view of our society and life in general spend an hour on the Bench by The Gap. Again somebody always sits down next to me and starts to have a conversation. The only complaint I have is one day a man I dubbed as “The Curser” sat down and gave me his theory on life in four letter words.  Nice to hear on a Sunday morning. My next stop is the Port Jeff Farmers Market. You can’t go wrong with the Farmer Market.

I fill my bag with fresh breads, cheese, veggies and flowers for that special somebody you met at Saturday night karaoke. Next back home. Unload my stash of fine foods. Walk back to the harbor During the summer I have my kayak at Centenial Beach. So out I paddle to Pirates Cove. Get some sun and swim time. Kayak back. During the cooler months I take a nice long walk along the shore or look at the boats docked in the harbor. Even East main Street offers great places to walk and shop on Sunday. Next is visit one of the many places to eat or enjoy happy hour deals. My favorite spot is the outside patio by The Village Way. I just get a table with some friends. Enjoy a cool drink and some great food. If you like to people watch than you can’t beat Chandler Square. It must be my Italian background but there is nothing better than sitting with friends and family outside and eating, talking, arguing and enjoying the day. Last Sunday The American Music Festival was in Port Jeff. I sat at my table, got a late brunch and listened to great music. Typical for my Sunday I would visit some of my friends at the Port Jeff Motorcycle Store, Tumi’s, Imagine Art Gallery, Port Jeff Brewery and then the best Ice Cream at Chandler Square Ice Cream Parlor. Then it’s time to go home. Have a nice dinner on my porch and watch the cars and motorcycles go by. Perfect day in my book. Well thats just a little of my Sunday life in Port Jeff Village. After a week of high pressure from my job I looked forward to my day of de-stressing in my home town of Port Jefferson Village. Give it a try sometimes you can’t go wrong. See ya around the bench..
